Who is Mike Neubauer?
Let's get the credentials out of the way first. I studied fine art at Northern Illinois university for a couple years before transferring to the Art Institute of Colorado to begin my studies of Graphic Design and Photography. I did pretty well there, earning several esteemed awards before graduating at the top of my class. Upon graduation I went out to study photography with another classmate and photographer friend of mine in Italy. Several months later I returned and moved to Maui, Hawaii to focus on landscape photography.
Fast forward nearly 20 years and I'm still here in Maui, still shooting landscape photography and traveling the world looking for the perfect landscapes at the perfect moments in time.
A lover of music (Black Sabbath to Buddy Guy), sports and life, I’m married to my best friend, am father to the world’s cutest son, and I try to make every day better than the last. I spend most of my time at home in Maui, Hawaii, but travel about a month or two out of every year to photograph the world’s most beautiful landscapes.
There is an affinity inside me for adventure and the natural world. There is a passion woven through the fabric of my being to explore and create and be the best at what I do as I possibly can be. I get anxious when I sit still for too long and complacency is equal to death in my eyes. I yearn to learn, to grow to be better every day, at my craft and as a person. When my time here is done, I want to be able to feel at peace knowing that I used every ounce of talent and creativity I have been given.
In the last few years I've garnered an incredible amount of awards from the most prestigious photography competitions. Three of the last four years I've even been honored as a silver medalist in the International Photographic Competition. I'm humbled by all this, but I'm still striving for gold!
I am eternally grateful for all the blessings in my life and for what I’ve been able to accomplish thus far. I’m thankful for the people who helped me publish my first book, The Kingdom of Maui: A Photographer’s Journey which received two honorable distinctions from the International Photography Awards competition. I'm grateful for all the amazing reviews and new photographers I've helped inspire with my second book, The Landscape Photographer's Field Guide. I’ve even started working on another landscape photography book on the magic and awe of the entire Hawaiian Islands. And I’m thankful for anyone who is actually reading this. Thank you! My photography is a passion and I bleed for it, so thank you for appreciating it!
