Deserts
Fire Kissed
In 2014 I drove through the Pacific Northwest on a solo photography expedition to try to capture some of the amazing parts of Washington and Oregon.
This place was hundreds of miles from anything else. Way out in the Eastern Oregon desert. I had a hybrid Hyundai Sonata rental car and filled it up with gas at every town along the way and I still almost ran out of gas between here and my next stop. There is literally nothing for miles around.
I drove the Sonata out onto this old lake bed of cracked earth to try to get this shot. As the sun faded I was treated to a surreal swirl of fire in the sky. I was literally jumping around and howling at how good the sunset was. It wasn't until later that I found out that the amazing sunset was due to the huge forest fires on the other side of the state.
