Long Way Home
Death Valley in California has it all. Well, it has nothing, actually, but it has it all for landscape photographers like me. Mountains, sand dunes, dried salt lake beds, textures, open skies and no light pollution. So when you're only visiting for a week or so, it's hard to choose just a few spots to focus on.
One of them, has got to be the sand dunes. They're vast and magnificent, stoic yet gentle. To get to this spot I hiked about an hour and a half and was nearly hallucinating even though I had drank half a gallon of water during the trek. It was so hot and there was nowhere to hide from the sun.
Thankfully, as it got a little lower in the sky, the heat dropped too. And when it finally started dropping behind the mountains it left an incredible glow around the sand dunes. I shot this with a 200mm lens. I love the way the Rocky Mountains look on as the sand dunes gently seem to sway from side to side.
