Fresh Water, Forests + Mountains
Way out in Hana Maui there is a bamboo forest with a composite path that winds through the tall green stalks. It's a place I frequent and a popular destination for a lot of visitors to the island as well.
On this particular day, the rain was coming down in buckets. But, like it often does in Hana, the rain would stop for several minutes before dumping again. These heavy rains tend to scare off most of the tourists (and locals alike). Not me though, I've got shoes meant for trekking through mud and rivers and a huge golf umbrella I carry with me to cover my gear when shooting in the rain.
I love to photograph the walls of bamboo, healthy and green that line the trails and are as thick as country gravy. While it's not where Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon was filmed, I imagine it certainly could have been...
