Fresh Water, Forests + Mountains
Halcyon
This is the famous Horseshoe Bend in Northern Arizona at sunset. There are not too many more picturesque places to watch the sun go down than at this spot.
Hundreds of feet below these giant canyon walls the mighty Colorado River winds down towards the Grand Canyon and occasionally you can witness rafts and kayaks in the river taking the journey.
To get this shot, I was literally on the edge of the canyon with my wide angle lens and tripod positioned to capture the scene as dramatically as I could. I knew I wanted to show the magnitude of the canyon, the beauty of the river and the sanctuary of the sunset beyond.
This image received the highest awards at the 2018 International Photographic Competition put on by the Professional Photographer's of America.
