Nightscapes
This was one of those serendipitous images, as I couldn't see my hand in front of my face it was so dark. I really had no idea what the mountains would look like or how the composition would come out.
This was shot at a lake high up in the New Zealand mountains maybe an hour from my hotel room. I found myself at the base of Moke Lake and really wanted to get some night images. There were quite a few clouds though hanging around so every shot I took didn't really look that great as there were too many clouds obstructing the stars. A few would have been fine, but there were just too many.
So, I decided to leave the shutter open for a half an hour just to see what would happen. I didn't know the celestial South Pole would be almost centered in the frame and didn't know that the clouds would be moving enough for me to get much of anything, but when I released the shutter and saw this in the back of my camera I was ecstatic!
