Nightscapes
On my first night in Death Valley I went straight down to this area and waited out there for hours. I shot a sunset from this spot and waited to shoot a panoramic nightscape in the area as well.
After the sun went down and before the stars really started showing up I had to wait for the moon to go down too. With the moon in the sky, it's light overpowers the light from the stars, and I wanted to see how many stars were visible from this remote location.
As I waited, I took a series of vertical images, bracketing each one and finally stitching them together to produce this scene that is probably about a 180 degree view from the salt beds of Death Valley National Park. I though the super moon in the sky was about perfect too in the light of the sun that had just dropped below the horizon.
