Awaken
Those are bubbles coming up from methane deposits in the earth below the lake. At least that's what I was told. Many of the lakes in the Canadian Rockies have this phenomena attached to them, but this is one of the most arcane. It is miles and miles from anywhere but if you were to make the journey here, you'd be treated to some of the best displays of these ice bubbles anywhere on earth.
On this particular morning it was -30 degrees Celsius and the wind was howling on top of that. My hands were stiff inside my gloves and much of my camera gear stopped working. Thankfully, however, my Gitzo tripod held firm and I was able to capture some of the brilliant morning light around these splendid mountain peaks.
