Winter
A lot of times when I'm out shooting images of exotic places, I'm going to somewhere that has been shot many many times before. The trick is to be able to shoot it in a new light. I love when I'm on my way to such a location but end up finding something even better to photograph than what I had come for.
With this spot, I was going to a really popular landscape view of this beautiful winter mountain scene. However, on the way to find a new vantage point for it, I found this waterfall, mostly covered in ice. I knew it could be a really cool shot if I could get close enough.
So, I approached with caution as I stepped out onto the frozen lake in front of it. I put on a telephoto lens and got as close as I dared. Then I fired away a few long exposures so I could get the bridal veil look of the waterfall and capture all the amazing ice formations around it. I really like how this image and it's vertical cousin came out!
